Its bracing flavor works really well with cheeses and cold meats - very fruity and full of flavor, and from a wonderful fruit that we don't get too much on this side of the Atlantic. Fresh gooseberries are very tart, but in jams and chutneys, the tartness is an asset, and the overall flavor is wonderfully fresh and delicious. All of Hawkshead's products are gluten-free! About the Producers The Hawkshead Relish Company is small and relatively young - they just opened their doors in rural Cumbria, in England's Lake District, in 2001 - but they've already taken home more than 30 "Great Taste Awards" for their relishes, pickles and preserves. Hawkshead products are made by hand with no artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives, and only the finest, freshest ingredients, including spices that are roasted and ground as they're needed. When husband and wife team Mark and Maria Whitehead decided to introduce their relishes, jams and sauces to a wider audience by selling them to local delicatessens and farm shops, the products were a smash hit. Until then, they'd only served and sold their homemade concoctions in their Lake District café, but now, their product range is up to 100 different varieties; eventually, they closed the café to devote themselves to their jams, chutneys and more.
